WHY
DEVELOP A GPS PROCEDURES SOFTWARE TOOL?
THE POTENTIAL MARKET?
With the introduction of GPS, the Federal Aviation Administration
will have to develop GPS procedures to replace approximately
520 non-GPS procedures per year to meet the decommissioning
schedule. According to Robert Loh, President of Innovative
Solutions International, in the future up to 10,000 GPS-based
approach procedures may have to be designed.
Using the WISI GPS software tool, the construction
time for a GPS approach procedure can be dramatically reduced,
depending upon the complexity of the approach required. In
the case of a simple approach to a small aerodrome, the construction
will take literally minutes once the original data has been
verified and entered into a data base. Other counties around
the world can also take advantage of this tool for GPS-based
approach procedures.
THE BENEFITS OF USING GPS/GNSS PROCEDURES?
Greater accuracy
Greater safety
Substantial fuel savings
Increased airport terminal area capacity
Greater efficiency of airspace usage
Reduced separation = more aircraft per route, per altitude,
and more routes
Option for more direct flights
WISI WHY DEVELOP A GPS PROCEDURES SOFTWARE TOOL ?
One of the greatest benefits is the potential for optimization
of airport terminal areas, combined with more direct routings
between airport terminal areas.
HOW?
Flying a GPS procedure, up to one minute of low altitude
flight time may be saved from each arrival and each departure.
In cash terms, this means that the operator of a B747-400
aircraft could save $718 x @ on each point to point flight.
An airport that averages a peak hour of one arrival or departure
per minute such as Chicago O'Hare Airport would be able to
reduce each operation by one minute in the terminal area.
This time saving would result in cash savings of up to
60 x $718 ($43,080) per hour.
